Here is another bargain blog post!
So one of my favorite things to do with one of my best friends is to go to Claire’s and shop their “10 for 10” sale. We discovered this sale many years ago and have continued to shop it together and separately over the years. For those of you who have never heard of this I suggest you pop into a Claire’s boutique the next time you are in the mall and see if the sale is on. They usually have a few spots at the back where they put the 10 for 10 items. Basically you can buy 10 accessories for ten dollars! You have to buy a minimum of 10 items to get the deal but once you’ve reached ten items then any item over that is still just one dollar! It’s pretty sweet. Now if you are saying “I don’t like Claire’s it has to many items geared towards teen’s and pre-teens” I would agree with you on the most part but the 10 for 10 racks have something for everyone. Grant you it is costume or “junk” jewelry and accessories but for a buck if you only ever wear it once then it really isn’t the end of the world. You can also sometimes find great gift filler’s there.
Educating you on the 10 for 10 does warm my heart but I should get back to the point of this post.
So recently my best friend who is somewhat of a socialite 😉 was in town and we hit up the mall for some retail therapy and low and behold…Claire’s had their 10 for 10 on! Yay!! We each got multiple items which was funny since Shalla had just shopped the 10 for 10 in another city earlier that day! But that’s what I’m saying! There is always something there you could talk yourself into spending a buck on!
So many rings!
Googly eye ring!
All the things!
As you can see I was able to find lot’s of things!
- A happy birthday sash for my little girls first birthday
- Fun party straws with lips
- Hoop earrings
- Hair pins
- 2 head bands
- Silver hair bow
- Temporary eye tattoo’s (something I would never buy otherwise)
- Rainbow colored hair piece
- Owl wood bead bracelet
- Turquoise, spiked wood bracelet
- Black dangle earrings
- Lip shaped ring
- Big bow ring
- Small bow ring
- Wood ring
- Center part tear drop hair pin (the tear drop rests on your forehead)
I didn’t get the big round earrings from the sale, Shalla actually brought those to give to me so they were…Freeee! lol!
So for all 17 items in this picture (excluding the free earrings) I spent $19.80 with taxes! The receipt printout told me that I saved 39.60. Now I don’t think that is based on the regular price. I think the savings are based on the marked down price. Either way it was great savings and I had so much fun!
I hope you enjoyed this little post! Feel free to comment and let me know what some of your favorite sales are to shop!
Do you like camping? I think I do…I better since we just bought some camping gear! We are actually planning on doing a bunch of camping next summer in preparation for doing West coast trail in summer 2015. We have been keeping an eye out for deals on supplies and since we need pretty much everything we need to save all the money we can!! Recently we found pretty good sales on a backpack and a tent both suitable for trekking through the wilderness.
This is the Astro 2 Light, 2 man tent. We found it at Wholesale Sports and saved $39.99. We set it up in the backyard and left it over the weekend while we were in Saskatoon. It was fine during the rain and wind that Regina had that weekend.
This is the McKinley Yukon 50+10 Liter multi-day pack. We found this at Atmosphere and saved $50.oo!! Both the tent and the pack were not planned purchases but we figured we should start slowly buying stuff when we find sales.
Now I’m turning it over to you! What are some of the best deals you’ve ever found?

- When chopping fruits and vegetables I tend to cut myself. I cut myself this month and had to get my husband to come home from work to fix me up.
When I cut my thumb cutting lemons.
- Celebrating my birthday no longer means huge parties are necessary . (Aug. 31 so technically not September but close enough!) I had a great time hanging out with my family and going out with a few girlfriends to eat and visit.
- I am going through a clumsy phase. This month I have cut my finger, bashed my toe, bruised my foot and tripped in the hole we have in our kitchen floor (missing vent) and fell into the kitchen table while carrying laundry.
- I am very susceptible to guilt. I am trying to let certain things go because I know guilt isn’t from a holy place. It is the evil one trying to get inside me. It’s hard but I’m praying about it and trust it will get better.
- This month I also learned that a 55” TV is better than a 42” TV
- I am not as much about the fun and excitement as I used to. I am perfectly content to stay home curl up on the couch and watch TV or to work on my latest DIY project.
I’ve been really into making banners lately. These were the first two that I made
- Turning 31 doesn’t feel much different from 30
- I like tower defence games
- Music together classes with my daughter are so fun!
- I actually like fall, I just wish it wasn’t so short in Saskatchewan
That’s my September list! I’m so happy to link up this month and hope I can stay consistent and do it every month! Thanks for reading!
So… this photo isn’t really of a mistake…more an accident! But it’s late and i’m tired of looking through all my photos. So here is a picture of Homer Simpson’s bum reflected in a mirror while I randomly took a picture oh about 15 years ago?
This weeks word a week challenge is “square”
My hubby and I went to Rona to pick out some paint and that is where I found the inspiration for this week’s challenge. I was acting especially goofy so Calvin thought it would be funny to take a picture of me being “square” needless to say I am not sharing that very unflattering picture with the world. Instead I will share a row of stacked boxes. Enjoy!
When I heard that the word this week was “Ornate” I automatically thought of our trip to Hong Kong. The whole experience seemed ornate to me one way or another but what stuck out the most when I thought of this word, where the chandeliers. They were everywhere! I don’t know about you but where I come from you do not walk into your local mall and see a chandelier hanging in almost every store. These particular chandelier’s were in a restaurant in a mall that was several stories high called the “Mega Box”, a shoppers dream.

Lately I find myself using my time more wisely. I sometimes go through long spells of wishing I had the time or motivation to get crafty. The last couple of weeks have been filled with inspiration along with the time to actually follow through on some of those ideas. I think I owe this extra time to cancelling cable. Anyways I love going to the Dollarama to see what kind of craft supplies they have since they almost always have something new. Even if I don’t know what to do with something if I think it has potential I buy it. I mean for a couple bucks you can’t really go wrong. So a few months ago I came across some larger wood cut outs that were basically a blank canvass with no paint or stain on them. I bought a heart, butterfly and flower shape. My first thought was to paint them and write some sayings on them. BIG MISTAKE seeing as I tried to freehand the sayings and I kind of suck at that so it looked terrible!! Frustrated I left them and didn’t touch them for a while. In the meantime I came across the problem of having to many magazines that I didn’t have the time to read, so I thought I should at least look at the pictures! So I went through them all and ripped out anything that I found pretty, cool, inspiring or just spoke to me in some way. Now what to do with this huge stack of ripped out pictures? A HA!! It came to me! I will modpodge the clippings on the wooden shapes! So I decided to color code them and do pictures on one side and plain color on the other. I glued them all on, trimmed and sanded the edges then finished with a clear coat spray. I think they turned out pretty good! Now I just need to figure out what to do with them. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Freckled Strawberry!
My name is Amanda and I’m going to start off by telling you a little about myself! I am a stay at home mom of a beautiful 10 month old baby girl. I am married to the love of my life and we just celebrated our 10 year anniversary this August!
Deciding to stay at home with my baby girl was a pretty easy decision and now that life is starting to settle into more of a routine I decided to start writing this blog in my free time! This blog is not going to be about me being a stay at home mom, it’s going to be about some of the things in my life that I enjoy doing like,
– Shopping (especially for bargains woot!)
– Planning (anything and everything!!)
– DIY and crafting
I know it seems like a lot to write about but I will take things as they come and hopefully you will enjoy following me on my blogging journey! While we are on the topic I would like to take a few minutes to just fill you in a bit on this blogging experience so far. It’s a lot harder than it looks! Being a bit of a compulsive planner It was way to easy for me to get caught up in the “planning” aspect of the blog. I bought a domain name, signed up for web hosting and became all confused and flustered when I didn’t really technically understand what was going on with either of those things! After venting and whining to my husband he kindly brought me back to reality and told me to just start writing! Like Duh! So that is what I am doing. Before I complete the look of my blog, before I add any fancy widgets or anything I am going to post at least one post! So here it is! I hope you will follow my posts and this blogging journey with me!
Now…to get back to perfecting and planning the look of this blog 🙂
