Camping deals

Hey Folks!

Do you like camping?  I think I do…I better since we just bought some camping gear!  We are actually planning on doing a bunch of camping next summer in preparation for doing West coast trail in summer 2015.  We have been keeping an eye out for deals on supplies and since we need pretty much everything we need to save all the money we can!!  Recently we found pretty good sales on a backpack and a tent both suitable for trekking through the wilderness.

New Tent

This is the Astro 2 Light, 2 man tent.  We found it at Wholesale Sports and saved $39.99.  We set it up in the backyard and left it over the weekend while we were in Saskatoon.  It was fine during the rain and wind that Regina had that weekend.

Backpack

This is the McKinley Yukon 50+10 Liter multi-day pack.  We found this at Atmosphere and saved $50.oo!! Both the tent and the pack were not planned purchases but we figured we should start slowly buying stuff when we find sales.

Now I’m turning it over to you! What are some of the best deals you’ve ever found?

A word a week challenge – square

This weeks word a week challenge is “square”

My hubby and I went to Rona to pick out some paint and that is where I found the inspiration for this week’s challenge.  I was acting especially goofy so Calvin thought it would be funny to take a picture of me being “square”  needless to say I am not sharing that very unflattering picture with the world.  Instead I will share a row of stacked boxes. Enjoy!Square

Butterflies, hearts, flowers

Lately I find myself using my time more wisely.  I sometimes go through long spells of wishing I had the time or motivation to get crafty.  The last couple of weeks have been filled with inspiration along with the time to actually follow through on some of those ideas.  I think I owe this extra time to cancelling cable.  Anyways I love going to the Dollarama to see what kind of craft supplies they have since they almost always have something new.  Even if I don’t know what to do with something if I think it has potential I buy it.  I mean for a couple bucks you can’t really go wrong.  So a few months ago I came across some larger wood cut outs that were basically a blank canvass with no paint or stain on them.  I bought a heart, butterfly and flower shape.  My first thought was to paint them and write some sayings on them.  BIG MISTAKE seeing as I tried to freehand the sayings and I kind of suck at that so it looked terrible!!  Frustrated I left them and didn’t touch them for  a while.  In the meantime I came across the problem of having to many magazines that I didn’t  have the time to read, so I thought I should at least look at the pictures!  So I went through them all and ripped out anything that I found pretty, cool, inspiring or just spoke to me in some way.  Now what to do with this huge stack of ripped out pictures?  A HA!! It came to me!  I will modpodge the clippings on the wooden shapes!  So I decided to color code them and do pictures on one side and plain color on the other.  I glued them all on, trimmed and sanded the edges then finished with a clear coat spray.  I think they turned out pretty good!  Now I just need to figure out what to do with them.  Any suggestions?

Great bargain on Keds!

The other day at the mall I found a great deal on some Keds!
It was awesome because I had been looking for some new everyday flats. We wound up at the mall trying to cool off from our hot, hot house and we wandered into The Bay where they had a huge sale on! All the clearance shoes were already 30% off plus you got to take an additional 50% off the sale price! At first I couldn’t see anything I liked and some of them were still more than I wanted to spend since we hadn’t really planned on spending any money at all. But just as we were leaving I saw a table with boxes of Keds. I found my size in a couple different styles and they both fit and were an awesome deal so I snatched them up. The flowery ones aren’t normally something I would gravitate towards but they were pretty cute and I couldn’t resist the great price! I have been wearing the striped ones the most so far, especially for just around the house since I can more easily slip them on and they are the most comfortable out of the two.

So I ended up getting both pairs for 35.00 and some change (with taxes). I’m not 100% sure but I think they were regular priced at $45.00 for the stripped pair and $38.00 for the flower pair. So I saved around fifty bucks!! I mean come on, you really can’t pass up on a deal like that
